Air New Zealand to trial a new IATA digital health passport to help people fly safely across the globe once international travel picks up again. The Travel Pass app was developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and will store health information, including Covid-19 test results and vaccinations.
The trial has started in April on Air New Zealand's Auckland to Sydney route first, aircrew and customers will both be invited to join the trial.
The aim is to store individuals' health credentials in one place, and to allow for contactless travel.
How IATA Travel Pass Helps?
The IATA Travel Pass provides:
Governments with the means to verify the authenticity of tests or vaccinations and the identity of those presenting their certificates.
Airlines with the ability to provide accurate information to their passengers on test requirements and verify that a passenger meets the requirements for travel.
Laboratories with the means to issue certificates to passengers that will be recognized by governments, and
Travelers with accurate information on test requirements, where they can get tested or vaccinated, and the means to securely convey the results/certificates to airlines and border authorities
How it works?
IATA Travel Pass is a mobile app that helps travelers to store and manage their verified certifications for COVID-19 tests or vaccines. It is more secure and efficient than current paper processes used to manage health requirements (the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis, for example). This is important given the potentially enormous scale of testing or vaccine verifications that will need to be securely managed.
IATA Travel Pass consists of four key modules:

Enables passengers to find information on travel, testing and vaccine requirements for their journey
Powered by IATA Timatic
Registry of testing/vaccination centers
Enables passengers to find testing centers and labs at their departure and/or arrival location that can conduct COVID-19 tests in accordance with the type of test required for their journey
Lab App
Enables authorized labs and test centers to securely send test results or vaccination certificates to passengers
Travel PASS App
Enables passengers to (1) create a ‘digital passport’, (2) verify their test/vaccination meets the regulations & (3) shares test or vaccination certificates with authorities to facilitate travel.
Can be used by travelers to manage travel documentation digitally and seamlessly throughout the travel experience.
